As we've recently mentioned on social media, we are getting ready to increase prices for all items.
We value transparency and so I wanted to explain the reasons for the change:
1. 2019 was a test run
The goal was to figure out what our customers like and don't like. What colors do they want and what fabrics? Are kids excited to wear our clothes? Are people actually willing to pay for this product? To get as much feedback as possible we set the price right on the edge of our production costs. To scale, we need to create more margin.
2. Dynur has grown, but not enough to cut costs (yet)
Dynur has grown significantly, but not enough to cut production costs in an ethical and sustainable way. Running a small business from home, using high quality, sustainable fabrics and sewing them myself is expensive. As we grow, the cost of those materials and labor will come down but we’re not there yet and the one thing we absolutely do not want to do is cut production costs by using lower quality, less sustainable materials or outsourcing production to underpaid workers.
3. The trade war with China has increased the price of organic cotton
We buy high-quality organic cotton for all our items from a local supplier in New Jersey that prints exclusively with plant-based ink. Because of the trade war with China, our supplier has had to increase prices for their organic cotton by 12%.
4. I recently quit my full-time job to spend more time growing Dynur
It’s a very exciting move but also financially tricky so I need to make some sort of living in order to make it work.
I will update the new prices on Friday night at 9 pm.
For us, ethics goes before profit, so pushing the production costs down by choosing less ethical and sustainable options is out of the question.
